Inspiration
International calling has always been frustrating β expensive plans, complicated apps, and hidden fees. I noticed that many people, especially travelers, expats, and remote workers, just want a simple, no-nonsense way to make international calls without jumping through hoops. Thatβs where Call Globally comes in: a minimalist, browser-based calling solution that works instantly, with clear pricing and no unnecessary extras.
What It Does
Call Globally lets users make international calls directly from their web browser β no downloads, no phone numbers required. With a flat monthly subscription of $9.99 for 100 credits, users can call phones worldwide, with rates starting at 1 credit per minute. Just sign in, dial, and connect β itβs that simple.
How I Built It
- Backend: Built with Node.js and powered by Twilio for reliable voice connections.
- Frontend: A lightweight, Svelte-based interface for a smooth user experience.
- Payments & Subscription: Integrated via Stripe for seamless billing.
Challenges I Ran Into
- Balancing simplicity and functionality: I wanted to keep Call Globally as minimal as possible while still offering essential features like call history and account management.
- Pricing clarity: Many VoIP services have hidden fees; I had to figure out a clear and fair subscription model that keeps costs predictable.
- Optimizing call routing: Ensuring that international calls remain high quality while keeping costs manageable was a technical challenge.
Accomplishments That I’m Proud Of
